Going through an initiation
Have you been through one?
It’s Fall, so naturally I’ve been thinking about what it means to see beyond the veil.
I think our mind goes to death, mediumship, and spirits.
But what if the thinning of the veil also means a more accessible portal to ourselves?
Moving through the veil isn’t just the threshold between spirit worlds, but the thresholds our spirits cross in life.
And these thresholds are initiations.
We talk about initiations as tests that once passed, allow entrance into a secret order. But initiation is much more than that.
Initiation is an event or awakening that often comes in the form of a trial or tribulation. The experience forces you to transcend your reality. When performed ceremonially, it is a test, a series of tests, or studies that bring a deeper understanding of the divine. A true initiation carries a lasting impact and often leads to finding something of true value.
(I came up with that definition after quite a few drafts.)
Have you been through something so profoundly challenging – or wonderful – that you emerged a new person? If so, you’ve been through an initiation.
Tarot Reading Challenge – Initiation
To understand life events that have been initiations, here’s an exercise you can do with your tarot cards.
Step 1: Think of a life-changing event.
Step 2: Draw tarot cards.
With your cards facing up, intentionally choose cards that represent:
1. What was this an initiation into
1. Who you were before the initiation
2. What led to the initiation
3. What the experience was like
4. Who / what you became
You can also do this exercise for a current initiation, if you are experiencing one.
